Dodecyltrimethylammonium chloride, also referred to as DTAC, is a long-chain quaternary ammonium salt. It combines the properties of a cationic surfactant, an emulsifier, an antistatic agent, and a phase-transfer catalyst.
Due to its amphiphilic structure, it interacts at the interface and can facilitate contact between components of different polarities.
Organic synthesis: Phase-transfer catalyst in reactions conducted between the aqueous and organic phases.
Technical formulations: Cationic surfactant, emulsifier, and antistatic agent in appropriately designed formulations.
Analytical chemistry and materials: Ion-pairing reagent and component in materials synthesis and modification processes.
