Tetrabutylammonium hydroxide, referred to as TBAOH or TBAH, is a strong organic base and a quaternary ammonium hydroxide. It can be used as a catalyst, a basic reagent, and a component in processes requiring good ion availability in the organic or aqueous-organic phase.
The 55% concentration allows for a reduction in the amount of water introduced into the process compared to more dilute solutions.
Organic synthesis: Strong base and catalyst in selected reactions, including transesterification processes and the synthesis of heterocyclic compounds.
Polymers and materials: Synthesis and modification of polymers, as well as the preparation of specialty solvent systems, including for cellulose.
Analytical chemistry and electronics: Component of mobile phases in ion-pairing chromatography, and of chemicals for selected cleaning and surface treatment processes.
